Let’s talk numbers. While other parts of Southern Africa are freezing, Inhassoro enjoys a mild, tropical winter from May to October.
The Temperature: Expect glorious afternoon highs averaging around 25°C to 26°C. It’s the perfect temperature to be active outdoors without the intense, sticky humidity of mid-summer.
The Skies: This is our dry season, meaning rain is incredibly rare. You are virtually guaranteed day after day of uninterrupted sunshine.
The Evenings: The temperature drops to a crisp, comfortable 16°C at night—absolutely perfect for gathering around the braai or enjoying a fresh pizza from our wood-fired oven under the stars.
2. Front Row Seats to the Humpback Whale Migration
Between July and October, the waters become a highway for one of nature’s most magnificent spectacles. Hundreds of Humpback Whales migrate from the icy waters of Antarctica to the warm, protected bays of the Bazaruto Archipelago to mate and give birth. It is incredibly common to sit on the boat and see giant whales breaching, blowing water, and slapping their tails against the surface. It is a bucket-list experience that you can only catch during these cooler months.
3. Crystal-Clear Water & Peak Fishing Conditions
If you love the ocean, winter offers some of the best water conditions of the year. Because the summer winds and rains have cleared out, the ocean becomes remarkably calm and still.
Unmatched Visibility: For snorkelers and scuba divers, underwater visibility skyrockets during the winter months, making the untouched coral reefs of the Bazaruto National Park look like a giant, glowing aquarium.
For the anglers, the calmer winter seas mean smooth boat rides out to the deep drop-offs. It’s the peak time for targeting big Yellowfin Tuna and fast-running King Mackerel (Couta).
